What you eat plays an important role on how you look and feel. Here are some tips on how you can eat to look your best, feel your best, radiate glowing skin, and reveal your true beauty.
1. Stay hydrated. Consume plenty of water all throughout the day. Aim for at least 8 glasses/day but more is even better. The more you stay hydrated, the fewer wrinkles and fine lines you’ll see. Staying hydrated helps slow aging, gives your skin a glow, reduces puffiness, helps clear acne and improves your complexion.
2. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Per the USDA dietary guidelines for Americans, it’s recommended to consume 2-3 servings of fruit and 3-4 servings of vegetables per day. Fruits and vegetables are full of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and water that can all improve the appearance of skin.
3. Avoid added sugar. The USDA dietary guidelines for America recommends that less than 10% of your total calories per day should come from added sugar. The less you consume, the better. For a person consuming 2000 calories per day, this allow a maximum of 200 calories of added sugar per day (or 50 grams of added sugar, ~12 teaspoons). One 12 ounce can of coca cola contains 39 grams (~10 teaspoons) of added sugar which would nearly max you out for the day.
Added sugar can cause puffiness and inflammation. It can also exacerbate skin conditions like acne and rosacea. Skin can become drier and less elastic with excess added sugar which can cause premature aging and wrinkles, and can give the skin a dull appearance.
4. Avoid alcohol. Alcohol can be dehydrating to your body and skin which can cause a dull skin appearance and wrinkles. Alcohol can also make you puffy and bloated. It can cause inflammation. If you do choose to drink, drink in moderation and be sure to drink plenty of water with it.
5. Avoid highly processed foods. Processed foods typical contain additives including salt and added sugar which can cause puffiness and dull skin appearance. Stick to a well-balance diet including lean meats, nuts and seeds, unsaturated fats, low-fat dairy, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
Other lifestyle factors that can impact your beauty and skin appearance. Exercise, getting plenty of sleep, and using daily moisturizer on your skin and face, can also help radiate your skins beauty.
