Have you ever felt like you have a closet full of clothes but have nothing to wear? What if you had your dream wardrobe including pieces you love that actually go well together? Imagine if you had easy to put together outfits that were comfortable, fit right, and that you couldn’t wait to wear. Mornings would be a breeze!
You really can have this, and I will explain how. Creating your dream wardrobe can be a fun and rewarding process but keep in mind it may take some time, (and it should!) Creating your dream wardrobe is a process that involves a lot of decluttering so you can make room for what you love. It also means taking your time and being selective in finding the right pieces. You don’t want to buy everything at once!
- Declutter
- Make room for what you love! Donate anything you no longer love, doesn’t fit, or you don’t wear. Just because you don’t love something anymore doesn’t mean someone else won’t. Think about how happy someone else may be to have those items! Remember- to goal is to only keep things you absolutely love here! At first, it’s okay to keep some items that you don’t absolutely love so you have something to wear while you are upgrading your current wardrobe.
- Choose only pieces you absolutely love
- Make a list of your current wardrobe needs categorized into high priority, medium priority, and low priority needs. As mentioned earlier, it’s a good idea to take your time to create your dream wardrobe so you are only purchasing what you need and what you absolutely love.
- Choose high quality natural fabrics over cheap polyester fabrics
- Choose natural fabrics like cotton, linen, silk and cashmere. They feel soft and luxurious on your skin. You want clothes that make you feel good when you are wearing them. Just be sure to read the care labels to ensure you are washing them properly. Leather is also a great durable material for belts and shoes, as long as it is taken care of properly.
- Avoid polyester clothing. Polyester is a synthetic material that is widely used in clothing. It is less breathable and tends to trap in odors compared to natural fabrics. It can also feel itchy on your skin.
- Invest in high quality pieces, especially if it’s something you know you’re going to get a lot of use out of.
- Don’t be afraid to splurge on higher quality items every once in a while, on things that are essential pieces in your wardrobe. Higher quality items may cost more initially but it can be worth it in the long run. You want clothes that are flattering but also feel good to you. You also want the right fit, so if you find items you absolutely love it’s a good idea to get them tailored to your exact size.
- Choose the right colors
- Choose your color palette and stick mostly with those colors. Try and choose colors you love, that make you feel good, colors that work well with your skin tone, and colors that work well with your current wardrobe. It’s not that you can never choose colors outside of this, but you want to be able to mix and match pieces with colors that you know look good on you. Pick neutral colors and fun colors you enjoy. Your color palette may vary from season to season. For example, you may have darker colors including red and green in the fall and winter but lighter colors like light pink and blue in the spring and summer.
